LED masks, which emit lights of different colors, are all the rage on social networks and promise to improve the appearance of the skin. But do these expensive products really work?
This is not a new futuristic object. But a LED mask that changes color and has invaded social networks. These lights would have the capacity to erase wrinkles and eradicate acne pimples . Is it a gimmick or a revolution in the world of beauty?
“Plumped and less marked” skin
"I expect it to give me a healthy glow and to reduce the effects of ageing a little, without going as far as cosmetic surgery because I don't really want to touch my face," confides Annick, 63, who is now testing this technique.
The masks feature red light LEDs and pulsed near-infrared LEDs. And even though the light seems bright, Annick enjoys the moment of relaxation and gentle warmth on her face.
The session ends with a smile. The treatments consist of between six and 12 sessions. Annick is already on her seventh and says she sees results on her skin. "I was a little marked around the mouth with fine lines and now, it's a little plumper with the impression that it's a little less marked," she notes.
Each color has its own action
If she wants to get this mask, the customer will have to pay 1,200 euros. This technology has also found its place in dermatology practices.
Dr. Jérémy Lupu, dermatologist, confirms the effects of these LED bulbs, for two colors: red and blue. "Each color will have a depth of penetration. Blue light is very superficial and therefore it acts on bacteria that are rather on the surface" describes the specialist. "The red light will be deeper, it will act more on the collagen, this is what is called dynamic phototherapy. There are therefore many indications, from acne to scars, to skin cancer... It is a machine that is extremely versatile" , specifies Dr. Lupu.
"Total security for the user"
LED light is not dangerous in any case, with a machine or a mask.
"It has nothing to do with UV rays, which are actually dangerous for the skin, which age the skin, which can cause skin cancer. There is total safety for the user, whether in the office or with a mask at home," confirms Dr. Jérémy Lupu.
At the dermatologist, a session costs around 70 euros, and is not reimbursed.
